Updates with Blogs
By Barbara Bray    October 24, 2007 -- 11:55 AM

Several new updates with the eCoach blogging tool:
  • New templates
  • Add categories to posts
  • Blog posts now appear in recent activities
New Templates
Check out the extended list of templates for your public blog.

We adapted the new templates in the Universal builder so you could extend your collaborative projects using a similar template. Just put a link to your blog in the Universal builder.

Add Categories to your Posts
Why would you do this? If you have multiple posts and people are having trouble finding a post on a particular topic, they can check your list of categories on the right sidebar.

At the bottom of your text editor for your post, you will see a field to input your categories.

Add single words with a space between the words.

Add multiple words or phrases in parentheses.

If you have existing blog categories, click on the link to add from these categories. To choose multiple categories from your list, click using CRTL (PC) or Apple (Mac).

The first letter of each word is capitalized. Unfortunately this will not work for acronyms like NCLB that shows up as Nclb. If you want the name to show up correctly, then put in the entire name in quotes i.e. "No Child Left Behind".

Blog Posts show up in Recent Activities
On your right sidebar on your Home Field, you’ll notice recent activities based on your membership and access level for the last 30 days. If you are on a team, you will see published projects, blog and forum posts, and community activities. If you are a free member, you will see community activities including any announcements from the eCoach staff. If you are an eCoach, you will see most activities happening on your team(s) including unpublished projects and even have the ability to comment on your teams’ projects or posts.  If you want to view more, click view all activities at the bottom of the list on the right sidebar. You can then even filter what types of activities you want to see.

Reminders of other features
  • Change the order of comments
  • Embed links
  • Add code to sidebar like Clustrmaps, Twitter, Flickr badges
  • Share your blog with Web 2.0 tools like Technorati, Feedburner, del.icio.us tags, etc.
I welcome any other ideas or comments about the eCoach blogs.
