Research a Portrait Artist

(Highpoints Level A)

Study three different artist's self-portraits and take notes about each artist, their life, and their work. Depending on your research skills, choose either portraitnotes1.doc or portraitnotes2.doc to help you organize your notes.

Questions to consider when researching each of the artists:

What kind of artwork does this artist do?
What is it about the artwork that I like?
Do I wish that I could do artwork like this?
How many geometric shapes can you find in each portrait?

Create a Portrait Gallery

Brainstorm a list of things that can be included in your self-portrait using the brainstorm.doc.
Go to Draw a Self Portrait for some ideas on how to create your self-portrait.
Think about the artists you just researched and what they used in the picture to represent who they are.
Add things that tell about you: refer to your brainstorm.
Create your Self-Portrait.

Tell about your self-portrait, what you are doing, and the things you included in your picture.

Share your portrait with the others in the classroom and then take a gallery tour.
