My Philosophy
I can bestow no better gift than reaching out to each student, striving to find the best in each, even when some see little hope, and helping them find their way.

My Community

I live in rural Missouri, southwest of St. Louis.  It is small town USA where the kids can’t believe their teacher is in the local Wal-Mart store. We have typical Missouri weather, never the same two days in a row and can change hourly.  We enjoy the 4 seasons and there are times that we do pray for a snowday.  Living in the country on a farm and in a farming community is wonderful.

My Environment
My work environment is a mid-sized elementary school where things are always hoppin'.  I am trying to make the library the hub of our building by creating a comfortable inviting place that both students and staff like to be.  As Library/Media Specialist that environment includes text and technology and balancing both can sometimes be a bit of a tightrope walk but seems to working well.

My Roles and Responsibilities

As Library Media Specialist I try to keep our shelves straight and books repaired.  I try to make a big deal of books students like to read and we keep a waiting list at the computer.  The students know they need to keep their books turned in to get a special delivery of a book they want.  If they have an overdue book the next fellow on the waiting list gets the book.

I try to prepare lesson to help the children learn the library and use it as a resource while at the same time keep it the homey central location of our school.

I help teachers find books to enhance their lessons, I try to keep the guided reading book library together and updated.

In the technology end I do trainings, set up programs, help solve difficulties such as Smartboards that don’t work or DVDs that won’t play.

I am also currently the District Mentor and work with a variety of new and experienced teachers helping them to find the success they are striving for in their career.
