Life Long Fitness
How important is movement across the lifespan?

Students need to understand the importance of healthy mind and healthy body.  Students need to be able to understand why we need to be healthy (five components of fitness, interviews) how to maintain a healthy life style (goal setting) and the benefits from maintaining a healthy life style (timeline).

Five reasons to stay fit:

  1. Kids who play sports do better in school. Exercise improves learning, memory, and concentration, which can give active girls an advantage in the classroom.
  2. Kids who play sports learn teamwork and goal-setting skills. Sports teaches valuable life skills. When you work with coaches, trainers, and teammates to win games and achieve goals, you learn how to be successful.
  3. Sports are good for a kid's health. In addition to being fit and maintaining a healthy weight, kids who play sports are also less likely to smoke and later in life, are less likely to get cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
  4. Playing sports boosts self-confidence. Kids who play sports feel better about themselves, because builds confidence when you know you can practice, improve, and achieve your goals.
  5. Exercise cuts the pressure. Playing sports lessens stress and helps you feel a little happier. The brain chemicals released during exercise improve a person's mood. Friends are another mood-lifter. And being on a team creates tight bonds between friends. It's good to know your teammates will support you — both on and off the field!
