Technology Use Assessment

The online needs assessment equips each teacher with an Individual Learning Plan™ (ILP). Each ILP generates a list of learning opportunities, Guides, and resources to assist the user in reaching his or her technology goals. Schools as clients receive customized charts and reports that facilitate the design of their professional development program. See our FAQs for more information.

Q What is the Assessment?
A

We developed our own Technology Use Assessment tool that measures teachers proficiency and comfort level of technology teachers. It provides each user an individual learning plan (ILP) aligned to a list of opportunities, resources, and the ISTE National Technology Standards. Schools or districts can contract with us to receive customized reports and charts (see sample charts). As a client, we provide detailed instructions and monitor input to make sure your teachers will receive an individual learning plan they can use. Our Assessment has been tested for validity since 1998 and been proven successful (see testimonials).

Q What makes My eCoach's Assessment unique in comparison to other assessments?
A

The Assessment developed by My eCoach assigns a unique code to each school or district. This secures that the information is relevant to the specific site. The teachers use the master login code to access the Assessment and to receive their individual learning plan. Guests can go in and do almost the same assessment, but data for guests in not secure or able to be compiled into reports for clients. The Assessment is rubric-based, and there are fewer fields to enter. The Assessment has received overwhelmingly positive feedback on ease of use. In addition, My eCoach can then compile the data for you and provide customized reports and charts that will help you plan the next phases of your Professional Development. Go to Assessment to learn more.

Our assessment is in a rubric form so the user can see the different levels in easy-to-understand, non-threatening language. We also have information from the Stages of Concern imbedded in the Assessment to discern a teacher's comfort level and attitude about using technology. In compiling the data, my eCoach can determine who would be the right people to be your mentors. We don't always recommend who you would think, but we know intuitively who has the right people skills and curriculum background to make your program a success.

Q How long does it take to complete the Assessment?
A

The Assessment takes approximately 20-25 minutes to complete. However, in situations where a staff participates in a presentation explaining how to take the Assessment and correctly enter the fields, the actual time to take the Assessment has been as short as 10 minutes. My eCoach can provide this service for clients along with written instructions for each user. Some of our clients have told us that they like that they can log in, start the Assessment, and come back later (if they remember their login and password) to finish. Now there are some cases where it takes longer because the teacher is new to using technology.

Q Do I receive a new customized report each time a teacher updates her/his information?
A

Only if you request these reports as a client. Certain charts can automatically be generated at the site. For more customized versions, you will want to build this into your contract.

Q What types of charts or reports can we get as a client?
A

Some examples include levels of teachers by numbers and percentages by report or pie or bar charts. We can detail how many are in each level by grade or subject areas in report, chart, or graph form, list types of curriculum projects happening in the school, determine who’s using what type of software, put together a chart on opportunities or challenges by percentages, and more considering the client’s needs. (See Sample Charts)

We went one step further and detailed Level One which is Personal Use into three categories. Level One Entry – beginning user; Level One Adoption – using but still cautious and needing help; and Level One Knowledge – personal user and just starting to use with students. Level Two uses technology with students and starting to develop more projects; and Level Three is Mentor who collaborates and shares projects and willing to help others.
