Internet Research and Projects

This is an opportunity for the Level One (Knowledge) or Level Two (Instructional) person who wants to create a project for students that involves Internet research. Develop a project using information literacy skills and essential questions that will help your students create effective and rich research projects around a topic. The culminating activities used for assessment will differ for each student. Participants will share results and assessment strategies using an online discussion board.

Purpose
to be able to create an Internet research project for students
Objectives
  1. create a site that includes links to critical resources
  2. design a project where students use the Internet to research specific topics aligned to content standards
  3. develop classroom management strategies
  4. develop an assessment strategy
  5. share results of process and projects online with others in workshop
Students will
  • develop essential questions and keywords for topic
  • use Boolean search strategies
  • bookmark and organize sites
  • evaluate sites for relevancy to topics
  • use copyright issues and properly cite all sources
  • create a culminating activity
NCATE Standards:
1.3.4,2.3.2,  2.3.3, 2.4.3,  2.4.6

ISTE Standards and Performance Indicators:
I.B,II.B,  C,D and E,  III.A and B,  IV.C, V.A and D, VI.A and E

Types of Opportunities:
  • five to six hour or more hands-on small group workshop with others at the same level plus one hour online discussion or
  • three hour minimum one-on-one coaching session
Prerequisite 
Internet Basics,Copyright Issues, Information Literacy or its equivalent

This eCoach opportunity can be bundled with other opportunities in an institute with a focus on a particular curriculum area, grade level, or project or as coaching as part of the staff development program. Our coaches can prepare your coaches so they can offer this opportunity onsite for a separate fee. We will include relevant eCoach guides as part of any opportunity or purchase any guides separately.
