Introduction

Below you will find a description of each of the projects you can select to earn your points. Remember, your goal is to earn at least 100 points overall. Read each description carefully, and select projects that reflect your personal interests and skills.

Artistic Project
    •Artistic Project (20 points)
In this project, you will be presenting an artistic depiction of one aspect of the Revolutionary War. You may choose to do this project more than once, selecting each of the category options if you wish. Be sure that your project is neat and artistically rendered.

Flags of the Revolution: Design a colonial flag (or a flag from a battle, regiment or unit). This cannot be done on paper. Accompanying your flag must be a summary describing the symbols on the flag and the origin of the flag.

Design a political cartoon or poster. You may choose either the perspective of the British or the Colonial position.

Develop a creative, illustrated timeline of the American Revolution reflecting the events that led up to, through and to the end of the war.
Diary of Valley Forge
•Life at Valley Forge (25 points)
You will become a man or a woman involved in the winter at Valley Forge. Write at least 3 days of diary entries that describe your daily routine (more days can be completed for extra points). Each entry (day) must be at least one page long, historically correct, and accurately dated. You must do some independent research to be able to realistically depict your character's activities during this terrible time. The diary must have:

A creative journal cover
Your name on the inside front cover
Your Character's name on the front cover
Fashions of the Time
•Fashions of the Time (25 points)
Men's and women's fashions were very different during the 1700's. Fashion defined who you were and your station in life. Research what was fashionable during the 1700's. Illustrate each garment, and write a description that includes when it might have been worn, by whom, and any interesting information you find. This needs to be a detailed research project with illustrations.

Alternative project: Research and describe uniforms of the British Army or the Continental Army. Describe the clothing and tools associated with a particular soldier, and be detailed and precise. The same written research will need to be described for this project.
Heroes and Heroines
•War Heroes and Heroines (25 points)
Choose at least one famous person from the Revolutionary War period to research. Ask yourself the following questions as you do your research: Why are they famous? What did they do, in relationship to the Revolutionary War? What battles, activities or innovations were they involved with? Find as much information about each one as possible. You will need to develop a brief, but complete personal history of your person prior to their Revolutionary War experience.

Write your research information in the form of an interview. You are a reporter. Identify yourself and then ask questions of the person you researched. Your questions should detail the person’s history, actions and importance during the war, and to history in general. Provide answers to the questions you ask. You may include some creative questions and answers (should be based on historical details), but most should be factual.

Example:
Jane Pauley: So, General Washington, what did you do at Valley Forge that made such a difference in the outcome of the war?
General Washington: Well, Jane, you see, it’s like this. . .
